Getting dressed up to go out on the weekend is something I take very seriously. No really, I do. Playing dress-up is how I have developed a sense of who I am style-wise. It’s the one time during the week where you get to show-off who you are, rules need not apply.
I cringe when I hear my friends call or text each other the question, “what are you wearing tonight?” I would go as far as to say that question is in my top five pet peeves. Why do you need to know what your best friend is wearing? You don’t. There’s no reason to let your friend’s outfit choice dictate what you should wear for the night.
We all know that group of girls you see at the bar who are all wearing some variation of a floral romper, a Michael Kors wallet, and their Tory Burch wedges. But let’s get something straight here – I am not here to bash anyone who wears that on a regular basis. If that is truly how you define your style and something that works for you, then own it! But do NOT match your whole squad because you didn’t know what to wear and you got lazy. Take some time and get a sense of who you are and really work to develop that. Nothing is more badass than being different and confident in what you’re wearing.
I pull a lot of my weekend-style inspiration from Tumblr. On Wednesday or Thursday nights I throw on a face mask, pour a glass of Sancerre, light some candles, and scroll endlessly through editorials and candid photos on Tumblr. This is what inspires me to get #badontheweekend.
