The Body Book was released in 2014 and I immediately ran out to Barnes & Noble to check it out. As I flipped through, I was wishing that this was something I had growing up. I grabbed a copy for Bradford’s sister, Brooke, to read and appreciate through her teenage years. Cameron Diaz explores the female body in a fun and eloquent, but informative way. As I’ve gotten a little bit older, I’ve started understanding the importance of taking care of my body and why we should start building those healthy habits in our teen years (i.e. sunscreen, face masks).
Cameron divided The Body Book into three parts: nutrition, fitness, and mind. All are equally essential in creating a healthy lifestyle. Through collaboration with a number of health experts, she provides some extensive knowledge about the body and conveys it with such excitement too. In the introduction, she says that “[The Body Book is] a guide to becoming yourself” which I think is a perfect encapsulation of the book. With all of the pressure via social media to have Kylie Jenner lips, Blake Lively hair, a Barbie waist, J. Lo hips, and Gisele legs, Cameron makes it clearer than crystal how to love YOUR body and how to make it your best body. And I mean let’s be honest, if Cameron isn’t #goals I don’t know what is.
One specific chapter that stood out to me was in Part One: “Water Is Life.” If you haven’t read my previous post about cutting soda out of my life like Jojo cut out Robby from her future (too soon? who cares), you can check it out here! Water – you’re probably thinking, “yes, we effing know that water is important” but it didn’t quite resonate with me until reading this book.
So let’s take a little quiz, shall we? Answer true or false on the below statements and see how well you do. Cameron may put some things into perspective for you like she did for me!
V Important True or False Quiz About H2O
- 50-70% of your body is made of water.
- Food is LESS important to your survival than water.
- Your body needs roughly 10 cups of water per day to stay hydrated.
- An indication of dehydration is dark yellow urine.
- One of the first signs of dehydration is a foggy headache.
- Only 1% of the world’s water is safe drinking water.
- When you’re dehydrated, your body temperature rises which can cause serious organ damage.
If you answered “true” to all of these statements, then you are a genius! But really, a lot of people don’t know how vital water is. The Body Book is something we can all benefit from.
Now, here’s how Cameron’s easy peasy AM water routine CHANGED MY LIFE. Yes, I said it. Fill up an 8-ounce glass of water before you go to bed and set it on your nightstand (if you’re OCD like moi, set it on a chic coaster like this one). When you wake up in the morning, the first thing you should do is sit up in bed and chug-a-lug. Seriously, chug the entire glass. Your eyes will open up bright, your skin becomes plump and glowy, your nostrils will clear, and your joints will feel awake. If you thought you needed coffee to wake up, try this. I SWEAR by it. And so does Cameron. Plus, that means you’ve knocked out 1 of your 10 glasses of water for the day before you even get out of bed!
Besides just the importance of drinking water, The Body Book aka the lady bible offers SO much more amazing info. AND it would look fab on a coffee table along with this book, my other summer favorite. Head on over to Barnes & Noble to purchase The Body Book or buy it online here!
