I am very much a goal-setter. There’s something inherently satisfying about creating a list of to-dos and then crossing them off, you know?? Like, I think it’s a girl thing. It just gets me hype AF.
That’s why I love New Year’s resolutions. As long as you set realistic and specific goals that actually mean something to you, you’re only setting yourself up for success. I really dislike hearing people say “I’m going to the gym more this year” or “I’m going to be healthier this year.” Okaaayyy…I mean what does that even mean, right? You’ve got to give yourself specifics so you can come up with a game plan to girlboss it up and cross that ish off you list!
One of the goals I set for myself every year is based around reading. As I’m no longer in school, I think it’s crucial to keep teaching myself and always learning. Being able to have educated conversations is something I value in myself and in others. No matter what you read, whether it’s a gushy romance novel or a vegan cookbook or a newspaper or an online publication, you should ALWAYS keep reading. In your everyday conversations, I guarantee you’ll start to catch yourself spitting out words you didn’t even realize were in your head!
Now let’s tie my New Year’s resolutions and reading together. For 2015, my reading goal was to read 20 books…and I DID IT. I’m still very proud of myself for that. However, for 2016 I knew I wanted to amend the new reading goal a bit. I tend to stick to novels and fiction, so I decided to push myself out of my comfort zone. SO, my 2016 goal to read as many books as I wanted, BUT they had to be in all different genres.
I won’t lie to you guys…I’ve only read 2 books this year. I will cut myself some slack though because I started this blog and have been pouring out so much energy and time into it. But now that i’m getting into the groove of balancing it all, it’s time to get back to reading before the year is over. AND CAN YOU BELIEVE IT’S NOVEMBER 1ST?! And I thought Halloween was scary…
Here’s some of the books that have got me SUPER intrigued these days. I’d love to cross off at least 2 of these off my least before the year is over. I’d love to know what you guys are reading too!
Time to throw on a face mask, brew up some tea, and throw on a sexy slip. Lets go bookclubbing, shall we?
American Fiction, Novel
I started Jitterbug Perfume a few years ago and somehow never finished it, but I LOVED it. I’ve only heard great things about this other Tom Robbin’s classic. I can’t wait to finish the first and start on this one.
Coming of Age Fiction
I was at first really taken by the cover of the book. Then I saw that Emma Roberts had just posted this book on her Instagram as currently reading (she’s got great book suggestions). A coming-of-age novel about a girl in her early 20s moving to New York and working in the whirlwind of the food industry. Oysters and champagne are a main topic, so I’m all in.
Whether I became interested in this book via Gossip Girl is neither here nor there. This has been on my list of autobiographies for awhile now.
This book is about understanding our gut decisions and how to trust them. With so much content and noise floating around these days, it’s important to know how to filter out the BS. I bought this on my Kindle about a year ago, but never ended up reading it and I’m thinking now is the perfect time.
Romance Novel, Fiction
I read all of Cabot’s The Boy Series and had so much fun reading them. They’re just fun easy rom-com reads. And what’s interesting is she tells the story through instant messenger or text conversations. This is her newest book and I can’t wait to check it out.
Thriller, Detective Fiction
A supermodel’s death ruled as a suicide, but her detective brother refuses to believe otherwise. I also downloaded this on my Kindle few months ago, but never got a chance actually start it.
What have you guys been reading lately? Let me know so I can add to my list!
