The way I feel about perfume is the same way I feel about lipstick. It’s a final touch to one’s outfit and style that pulls everything together in a signature way. Some women match their lip to their outfit while some have a classic color they wear with every day no matter what. And then some prefer a flat matte while others slather on the gloss. I personally love trying new colors and formulas, but I stick within the same general color palette aside from the occasional classic cherry red.
When it comes to lipstick however, I am very picky. You guys shouldn’t be shocked at this point. I’m an extremely particular person. Nothing, and I mean NOTHING, is worse than uncomfortable lipstick. You know they kind that flakes off and leaves your lips all splotchy? Or the kind that bleeds beyond your lip-line so you look like The Joker? And the kind that disappears after one sip of your morning crack aka coffee? It’s all a nightmare. When I try a new lipstick and the formula isn’t perfectly creamy and moisturizing with optimal staying power, back to the store it goes. Your lips are one of the main focuses of the face so they should be ON point.
Before we get on with my favorite lipsticks, 5-second beauty tip! Prepping the lips is essential to keeping your lipstick looking fresh. One of the best ways to do this is with this product I’ve talked about before. Aquaphor. Is. My. Life. I swear you guys have to try this trick. Wear it as an overnight mask and voila! Overnight faux Kylie lips. Okay – now to the main event.
These are my 5 absolute favorites right now that you guys HAVE to try. How convenient I’m sharing these right before the weekend too, right? Go out and get these ASAP!
Liquid mattes are everywhere right now, and they can be very tricky. I got “Swag” with my Sephora points and am now obsessed. It’s an amazing blush pink and smooths out all the lip lines. It’s very moisturizing too which is hard to find in a matte. I definitely plan on trying this in more shades.
I have worn this lip since middle school. It’s a cult classic that I ALWAYS keep on retainer. Don’t be fooled by how dark it is in the tube. It’s a balmy formula, hence the name “Almost Lipstick” meaning that it goes on fairly sheer. You can layer it on and the color will deepen though, which is great. It’s flattering on everyone because it gives you that “just-bitten” type of look.
About a month ago, I went into MAC looking for a new everyday blushy natural color. Shocker. While the girl helping me didn’t quite pick up what I was looking for, she did accidentally introduce me to this color that is now added to my arsenal. I don’t agree with the name “Taupe” though. It’s a muted reddish color and it is gorgeous. If you want a unique color for fall that isn’t a vampy red, this is the one.
I’ve tried a ton of NYX products and have loved almost all of them. This is probably my absolute favorite from the line though. It’s a mauvey-pink, which I have found to be especially flattering on olive complexions. Plus it’s $6.00! It’s long-wearing and comfortable. This is my go-to for work because it’s super classic and natural. They sell the line at Target and Ulta aka easy access.
There’s a reason this is a cult classic too. I cannot say enough good things about this lipstick. This is what my makeup artist, Debbie, puts on my lips in all of my shoots. This is another amazing mauvey-pink, but a little deeper than the NYX. Also, the staying power is insane! I will have Deb put this on me 2 hours before a shoot and it’s still totally in place for hours after. It’s universally flattering and just perfect. It is a little on the pricier side, but I think it’s totally worth it since you don’t have to apply it 3000 times a day.
What are some of your favorite lip colors? I LOVE trying new formula and shades so please, let me know in the comments below!
