Minimal. Unfussed. Classic. Relaxed. Natural.
All words that come to mind when I envision Parisienne style. The Parisienne has a globally recognizable chic look. Why? She has perfected her uniform. And not uniform in the sense of a girl attending prep school in her collared button-down, pleated skirt, and loafers. The Parisienne spends time building a wardrobe of staple pieces she finds suitable to her personal style, all interchangeable. She isn’t necessarily phased by following the latest trends. That’s where I think the fascination comes into play. In a world where we’re constantly being force-fed the latest and greatest new best thing, the Parisienne remains timeless. And who doesn’t want to be a classic?
Creating a functional wardrobe of basics with a few statement pieces sprinkled in is how I have curated my own style. Nothing too trendy. This provides endless options, but still creates your defined look. You should never have to say “I don’t have anything to wear.” There is power in a uniform!
Here are some of the staple pieces that I have stolen from the timeless Parisian uniform:
The Leather Jacket
Badass. But when styled a certain way, it can also be extremely polished. I live in my Zara leather jacket almost all year long excluding the torturous Atlanta summer. I love this one. And if you know me, you know that I LIVE for literally anything leather. I even have an entire Pinterest board dedicated to leather. My inspo here!
The Classic Striped Shirt
While I’m not big into prints, stripes are the one exception in my closet. Whether it’s a just a cotton tee or a chiffon button down, stripes are a very versatile pattern you can pair with almost anything. A vertical stripe can also be very slimming!
The Skinny Scarf
Scarves are not just for fall and winter. The skinny scarf is the perfect accessory to pair with a classic white tee or really any basic top. If you wrap once around your neck, it also acts as a faux choker, and we all know how I feel about chokers (hint: I’m obsessed).
“The Parisienne never gives too much away. When it comes to revealing herself, she follows one golden rule: less is definitely more.”
